🏝️ ANIMAL CROSSING 3.0 UPDATE | New Island, Who Dis?

Fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons are gearing up for something special. On January 15, 2026, Nintendo will release Update Version 3.0 for both players of the original Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. It has been 4 years since the 2.0 update. Nintendo really came in like a villager who has not visited their island in years and we are shocked with this unexpected surprise out of nowhere. So let’s take a look at some of the key features that have been added. 

🌴 WHAT’S NEW IN 3.0 | Upgrades, New Items, Oh My

➜ 🏨 Resort Hotel & New Island Experiences


The big headline feature is a resort hotel run by Kapp’n’s family, where you’ll decorate guest rooms to themed requests and earn Hotel Tickets to spend on exclusive items. And you can decorate the display mannequins at the hotel.There’s also Slumber Island (Creative Mode), a separate dream like esque island where up to 11 players can fully build and decorate with you. You can decorate up to 3 unique islands at once.

➜ 📦 Quality-of-Life Upgrades


Update 3.0 adds expanded home storage (up to 9,000 items), bulk crafting from storage, and a new Reset Service from Resetti to tidy island layouts in small areas or the entire island as a whole. These improvements streamline daily play and help you manage your island more efficiently. These are all real game changers for us.

➜ 🎮 New Items & Interactive Retro Games

 At the Resort Hotel you can purchase a selection of retro Nintendo and game system furniture such as the NES and Game Boy. If you have the Nintendo Switch Online membership, you will be able to play the select retro games within Animal Crossing by interacting with the retro game systems sold at the shop. There are some LEGO collaboration items for the LEGO lovers out there. LEGOs that are made into cute red, yellow, blue, and green furniture items and clothes: YES please!!

➜ 🎮New Villagers Via Amiibos

There is also a collaboration with Legend of Zelda and Splatoon which means there will be 4 new villagers joining this update. By scanning compatible amiibos you can unlock Cece and Viche who are returning villagers from New Leaf. They have updated designs from Splatoon 3’s Shiver and Frye. For Legend of Zelda, you can scan amiibo in Tulin and Mineru to your island. In addition to these villagers, there will be matching themed items and furniture that can be purchased such as Majora’s Mask, octoling head, and more. Screams of joy in Link’s voice “Hya!”

If you have never played any Animal Crossing game before but always wanted to, then this is the perfect time to start. With the hype of this recent update, you are bound to make new friends while enjoying creating new island themes and just having a fun time. Island life for life.
